A good indicator of chain condition is the appearance of wood chips. A sharp chain produces fine, uniform chips, while a dull chain generates sawdust. To sharpen a chain, you need a round file, a flat file and a filing gauge. In the left column, we show how to use the unique Husqvarna filing kit. Additionally, we recommend using a vice to secure the guide bar, keeping both hands free for sharpening.
